The Assistant Director of Nursing is responsible for enhancing the overall memory care Resident and family experience through the provision of comprehensive leadership to the staff working within our memory care environment with thorough and passionate training and mentoring on our specialized program, Luminations®, entering their world.  This is to be handled in The Sterling Touch® friendly, courteous, helpful, timely and professional manner, resulting in a very high level of Resident satisfaction.  This position is under the general guidance of the Director of Health and Wellness in accordance with Community standards, processes, procedures, practices and philosophy.

 

Essential Functions:

  • Participate in Start Sterling! line up every day.
  • Greet the Residents, guests, fellow employees and vendors in a friendly and courteous manner.
  • Providing nursing services including medication administration and delegation and provision of care and services to residents whose conditions are allowed to be cared for within a memory care assisted living per State regulations.
  • Participate in direct service staff recruitment, selection, orientation and in-service education
  • Ensure the evaluation and clinical competence of assigned nursing personnel, assisted living aides, and medication aides (as allowed by State regulations) by participation in orientation, teaching and supervision of staff.
  • Participate in or develop all agency objectives, standards of care, policies and procedures concerning nursing services and the provision of assistance with activities of daily living.

  • Provide direct nursing services to residents in accordance with State regulations of allowable nursing services within a memory care Assisted Living community.
  • Responsible for ensuring that staffing is adequate at all times to meet resident personalized service plans and needs.
  • Responsible for ensuring medical supplies are ordered and available in adequate quantity for the nursing department.
  • Supports, cooperates with, and implements specific procedures and programs for:
    • Safety, including universal precautions and safe work practices, established fire/safety/disaster plans, risk management, and security.
    • Confidentiality of all data, including resident, employee and operations data.
    • Quality Assurance and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
    • Compliance with current law and policy to provide a work environment free from sexual harassment and all illegal and discriminatory behavior.
  • Due to resident expectations and both planned and unplanned events/occurrences, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business and service needs of the Community.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

     

Education:

  • Associates degree in Nursing required
  • Bachelors degree in Nursing preferred

 

Experience:

  • Three or more years' experience in nursing
  • Two or more years experience as a supervisor in senior living environment.
  • Memory care experience is preferred but not required

 

Licenses or Certificates:

  • Licensed Practical Nurse required
  • Registered Nurse preferred
  • Ability to obtain any government required license or certificate

The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities:

  • Ability to read, write and understand the English language in order to recruit, train and supervise staff; meet with residents and their families to facilitate appropriate assessments and development of personalized care plans; utilize and train others on operational software for delivery of care documentation and recording; and communicate with other employees.  
  • Is knowledgeable of resident rights and ensures an atmosphere which allows for the privacy, dignity and well-being of all residents in a safe, secure environment.
  • Excellent communications in both verbal and written form, with residents, family members, peers, employees, and vendors
  • Ability to work in concert with all other departments to provide an exceptional resident experience
  • Leadership skills to oversee and manage department.
