Position Title: Bus person/Food Runner  Department:  Dining
Reports to: Dining Room Manager  FLSA Designation: Non-exempt

Responsible to enhance the overall Resident experience through the provision of exceptional service delivery support of food and/or beverage to include initial beverage and menu service, maintaining a clean, attractive and bussed table top, resetting of turned tables, delivery of meal courses or any items requested, as well as ongoing dining room cleanliness and prep.  This is to be handled in The Sterling Touch friendly, courteous, helpful, timely and professional manner, resulting in a very high level of resident satisfaction. Position is under the general guidance of the Dining Manager in accordance with Community standards, processes, procedures and practices.
        Essential Functions:
 Participate in Start Sterling! daily line-up.
 Greet the Residents, guests and fellow employees in a friendly and courteous manner.
 Establish and maintain high cleanliness and sanitation standards in all side stations and dining areas. 
 Check station before, during and after shift for proper set-up and cleanliness; clean, organize and maintain as appropriate and/or assigned.
 Initial greeting of residents, guests and perform initial menu and water service.
 Perform bread service and maintain a bussed, attractive table top throughout meal service.
 When complete, retrieve order up to 30 lbs. from kitchen, confirm its accuracy, lift and deliver to Resident and guest along with appropriate condiments. 
 Abide by all State, Federal and Corporate liquor regulations pertaining to serving alcoholic beverages (if applicable).
 Replenish beverages as necessary and inquire on overall satisfaction, identifying and resolving any concerns in a timely manner.
 Ensure table top is prepared for next served course.
 Properly dispose of used dining service ware to dishwashing area in timely manner.
 Re-set each table and place setting after each use.
 Document and report breakage/loss of all service ware for tracking expense and ensuring par inventory levels are maintained to prevent service breakdowns.
 Attend meetings and training sessions organized by Community Leadership.
 Represent the Community in a professional manner.      

Regular attendance in conformance with the standards as detailed in the Grand Living Sioux Falls Employee Handbook, Orientation, Training and as may be established by Grand Living from time to time, is essential for successful performance of this position. Employees with irregular attendance will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
Due to resident expectations and planned/unplanned events/occurrences, employees may be required to work varying schedules which reflect the business and service needs of the Community.
Upon employment, all employees are required to fully comply with Grand Living's standards, procedures and processes, including all government and industry regulations, for the safe and efficient operation of the Community. Employees who fail to meet the Grand Living Sioux Falls expectations in all areas will be subject to disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
   Supportive Functions:
In addition to performance of the essential functions, this position may be required to perform a combination of supportive functions, such as clearing and resetting tables, replenishing condiments, restocking side stations, general cleaning tasks etc., with the percentage of time performing each function to be solely determined by the supervisor based upon the particular requirements of the Community.  Must be flexible with receiving and effective completion of other duties as may be assigned by supervisor.       
The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the position, with or without reasonable accommodation, using some other combination of skills and abilities.
 Good working knowledge of expected standards of sanitation and safety.
 Basic knowledge of food and beverage preparation, service standards, Resident and guest relations and etiquette.   
 Knowledge of appropriate table settings, service ware and menu items.
 Ability to read, write and speak the English language sufficient to understand menus, special promotions, communicate with guests and culinary to explain and record orders, comprehend work requests, differentiate service ware, product labels, Community communications and general interaction with Residents, guests and fellow employees.
 Ability to remember, recite and promote the variety of menu items.
 Ability to transport large trays weighing up to 30 lbs. through a crowded room on a continuous basis throughout shift.
 Ability to learn and understand Community's emergency, life safety and security procedures and requirements.
 Able to get along with people at all levels within the Community.
Any combination of education, training or experience that provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities. High school and college students encouraged to apply.
No prior experience required.  Prior service or hospitality experience preferred but not required.
 Licenses or certificates:
Ability to obtain any government required licenses or certificates. CPR Certification and/or First Aid training a plus.
