The L.P.N. is responsible for overseeing and enhancing the overall Resident and family experience through the provision of comprehensive nursing leadership to the staff working within our independent and assisted living care environment.  Assists with assuring the general health and well-being of residents through the delivery of comprehensive and high quality services. This is to be handled in The Sterling Touch® friendly, courteous, helpful, timely and professional manner, resulting in a very high level of Resident satisfaction.  This position is under the general guidance of the Health and Wellness Director in accordance with Community standards, processes, procedures, practices and philosophy.


Essential Functions:

  • Participate in Start Sterling! line up every day.
  • Greet the Residents, guests, fellow employees and vendors in a friendly and courteous manner.
  • Providing nursing services including medication administration and delegation, as well as provision of care and services to residents who have orders by their attending physician  to be admitted to the community for assisted living care per State regulations.
  • Ensure the evaluation and clinical competence of assigned nursing personnel, assisted living aides, and medication aides (as allowed by State regulations) by participation in orientation, education, teaching and supervision of staff.
  • Conducts frequent rounds to evaluate effectiveness of care delivery.
  • Provide direct nursing services to residents in accordance with State regulations within  Assisted Living community; including observing, assessing and reporting resident condition changes.
  • Receive and transcribe physician orders, assuring the implementation of care plans, investigating and documenting all accidents and incidents, medication administration, treatment orders, electronic chart notes, admission/discharge/transfer paperwork, working with other health care professional and community staff to provide timely and responsive care services to our residents
  • Notify Medical Providers and resident representatives of change in a resident's condition
  • Use best-practice nursing judgment in monitoring residents changes in condition and take appropriate steps to address changes
  • Responsible for ensuring that staffing is adequate at all times to meet resident personalized service plans and needs.
  • Assists Health and Wellness Director to ensure medical supplies is ordered and available in adequate quantity for the nursing department.
  • Supports, cooperates with, and implements specific procedures and programs for:
    • Safety, including universal precautions and safe work practices, established fire/safety/disaster plans, risk management, and security.
    • Confidentiality of all data, including resident, employee and operations data.
    • Quality Assurance and compliance with all regulatory requirements.
    • Compliance with current law and policy to provide a work environment free from sexual harassment and all illegal and discriminatory behavior.
    • Perform other duties as requested, such as, moving supplies and equipment, cleaning up spills, etc.




  • Associates degree from an accredited program for L.P.N.



  • Three or more years of nursing experience
  • Two or more years experience with senior living preferred


Licenses or certificates:

  • Licensed Practical Nurse in the state of Iowa

  • Ability to read, write and understand the English language in order to educate, train and supervise staff; meet with residents and their families to facilitate appropriate assessments and development of personalized care plans; utilize and train others on operational software for delivery of care documentation and record keeping; and communicate with other employees effectively.  
  • Is knowledgeable of resident rights and ensures an atmosphere which allows for the privacy, dignity and well-being of all residents in a safe, secure environment.
  • Excellent communications in both verbal and written form, with residents, family members, peers, employees, and vendors
  • Ability to work in concert with all other departments to provide an exceptional resident experience
  • Leadership skills to oversee and manage caregivers.
